Personal Review:
From a preparation standpoint I think I did a really good job, I spent a lot of time creating the keynote, prepping presentation notes and rehearsing the lines by myself ahead of time. I also reached out to Pedro for a 1 on 1 before the presentation date to make sure that the changes I made based off the proposal feedback didn't completely tank my concept.
The presentation itself went smoothly though it was clear that my concepts and ideation still requires a good bit of refining and the way I express those ideas still require refining. There wasn't much time for feedback due to the tight schedule we had so I didn't get a chance to explain things or respond to questions or feedback but from my personal point of view, lots of the feedback was aimed at what I would consider to be the wrong idea. As in I misrepresented the ideas/concepts or chose wordage that emphasized the wrong ideas so that people didn't have a clear understanding of the argument/questions I wanted to ask an explore. One of guests Allison Parrish mentioned that she didn't believe in the crux of my argument or rather that the crux of my argument relied on a specific belief that I didn't defend in my presentation. I realized at that moment that I had done something wrong because I fully agreed with Allison's stance, hence it was more so that I failed to present my argument correctly. The next five weeks I plan to continue prototyping but also doing more research and reaching out to faculty for 1 on 1's as well as reaching out to my peers in the cohort to bounce ideas off of. From the proposal to the midterm, this is the second time where I felt that the ideas in my head didn't match up with the ideas that people got from my project/presentation. The most important thing for me to do now is to continue refining my ideas and my execution for presenting those ideas so that I can fully focus on production in the summer.
Production Timeline: Spring
Remaining 5 weeks:
- 50% time spent on ideation/research/concept development
- 15% time spent on design and prototyping
- 10% time spent on user testing designs and prototypes
- 5% time spent on production
- 20% time spent on documentation and presentation
Ideation/Research/Concept development:
This will consist of referencing more existing artwork, analyzing said artworks. Talking to other academics and people who have worked or created works in the relevant fields as well as talking to professors to get insight and hear second opinions about my ideas.
Design Prototyping:
Consists of deciding on what kind of merchandise the pop-up shop will have and the design's that will go on them.
User testing:
Having people look at mockups of merchandise designs as well as storefront designs to get opinions on aesthetic and the feelings elicited from going to these stores.
Production:
Sample production for merchandise.
Documentation:
Self explanatory.
Production Timeline: Summer
It's a bit difficult to create an accurate production timeline this far ahead but as of now I plan to have all merchandise created and made within the first half of summer and I plan to focus solely on procuring a space and setting it up for the latter half of summer.
